Exploring Passion, Growth, and Creativity: An Interview with Simona

Could you start by introducing yourself? 

My name is Simona, and I’m 26, born in Italy to Indian parents. My multicultural upbringing inspires my sensitive, outgoing, curious, and creative nature. I thrive on organization and enjoy event planning, finding joy in creating memorable experiences for others. 

I’m determined—sometimes to a fault. At six, I jumped off a two-meter embankment just to prove my brother wrong. I got hurt, but the triumph was worth it. 

Travel is my love language. Amsterdam’s harmony of greenery and water captivates me, but the ocean holds my heart. Born by the sea, I find endless inspiration in its waves and horizon. Autumn is my favorite season, perfect for cozy moments and reflective walks. Authentic connections matter deeply to me; my four close friends are my irreplaceable pillars. 

Empathy defines me. I feel deeply, offer support, and connect through music, my therapy and creative outlet. I’m also the person who dances and sings whether or not someone’s watching. My brother is my greatest inspiration. In tough times, his guidance and a heartfelt letter reminded me that challenges shape who we are. His words, “One day, you’ll look back and understand what shaped you,” continue to inspire me. 

I love poetry, especially Emily Dickinson, and often write my own. A notebook is always with me to capture fleeting inspiration. I embrace my quirks—stormy seas, strong winds, and making people laugh. Each day, I strive to balance ambition, creativity, hard work, and emotional connection. This dynamic blend is what defines me. 

Could you share some insights into your academic journey? 

Education has been the cornerstone of my journey, opening doors to broader horizons. I earned a bachelor’s degree in international management from Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, including a transformative Erasmus year in Germany, where I learned adaptability and embraced diverse perspectives. 

While pursuing my degree, internships in marketing and diversity management deepened my understanding of business connections and workplace inclusion. A milestone day, February 22, 2022, saw me graduate and receive a job offer from Spreaker, a workplace that became a hub for growth and creativity. 

In September 2022, I began my Master of Science in Global Business Management at Università Cattolica, diving into topics like strategy, sustainability, and performance management. A summer program at the University of Warwick enriched my skills in marketing and communication. My thesis, Podcast Integration for Enhanced Brand Experience and Consumer Engagement: The Spreaker Case, explored podcasting’s role in reshaping brand loyalty among younger audiences, drawing insights from survey data and podcaster interviews. 

Graduating in November 2024 was a moment of immense pride. Balancing work, studies, and personal time wasn’t easy, but it was worth it—for myself and for my parents, who immigrated from India to Italy with dreams of a brighter future. My graduation symbolized the fulfillment of their sacrifices and our shared journey of resilience and hope. 

This experience taught me that growth is never linear, but each step forward brings us closer to the person we strive to become. 

Finally, what advice would you offer to those aspiring to advance their careers in finance? 

For those pursuing a career in finance, my advice is simple: follow your passion wholeheartedly. Finance thrives on precision, analytics, and a love for numbers, but passion sustains you through the highs and lows. 

The journey won’t always be smooth, but trying is far better than regretting inaction. Build technical skills, stay curious, and embrace challenges as growth opportunities. Seek mentorship, ask questions, and surround yourself with inspiring people—relationships are as vital as technical expertise.
